Veronica's Choice

Two minutes is all it took to drive around the small town of Sugar Grove, Ireland. Veronica Wood had her blonde head pressed against the cold foggy window of her mothers car daydreaming. She was staring blankly at the window, which showed her reflection staring back at her. Veronica had an average look about her but her most special quality was her eyes they were an icy blue sapphire.

Her mother slowly turned into the driveway of one of the houses, breaking Veronica of her trance. The house was only one story and its color was a pale old yellow that resembled old butter.

“Veronica, honey.” Her mother said softly. “We’re finally here.”

Veronica looked up through the windshield of her mother’s car in disgust at her new home. It is yellow; Veronica thought bitterly, I hate that color! I have hated it ever since daddy died. Veronica sighed sadly, opened the door and then stepped out the door to her new home.

She followed her mother up to the front door of the butter house, making a note that the front walk was cracked and looked like a bald man clinging to his last bit of hair. Veronica walked up the steps to the front door, she and her mother both stopping on the landing. Both of the women took a deep breath, then swinging the door wide open.

A loud creak came from the rusty door hinges that seemed to be welcoming them to their new home. Veronica made her way slowly to her room, noticing that the door was ajar.
